I found that I had to set HDMI info disp = ON in camera settings, to get the camera to record video, despite never using HDMI for anything and the camera not being connected to HDMI or connected using USB, Bluetooth or WIFI.I used the original Canon library (and in particular the Canon Utilities software) on my old Acer Ferrari PC witth Windows XP for nearly 10 years without any problem, and I was very happy about that. I've experienced the problem you describe, when trying to use the camera to record videos, without attaching it to my computer. Right now I'm using the camera with a lens attached, until I can get video recording to work.
However, given the limitation was in the camera, maybe this is part of your problem as well? I think I was using APT at the time in native mode rather than using the ASCOM drivers, so the ASCOM driver could still be a problem. My solution was to get a T2 adapter that had enough electronics in it to fool the camera (I got this one: ). Turns out that some (most/all?) of the canon cameras won't capture video via software command unless a lens is attached that will confirm focus.
